Son who rescued mother's life brings holiday spirit to town

Jacob, an eight-year-old boy who saved his mothers life by calling emergency services when she collapsed at home, has now brought the festive spirit to his hometown. He had the special role of switching on the Christmas lights in Loughborough on Friday, following his mother Hollies medical emergency earlier in October.

Hollie, who is preparing for surgery after receiving treatment for septic shockthe most severe form of sepsisdescribed her son as "my hero." His courageous actions were recognized by Charnwood Borough Council, which awarded him the winner of the Light up Loughborough competition for his quick thinking and bravery.

"I dont think he fully understands what he did or how significant it was," Hollie told the BBC. Septic shock is a life-threatening condition that occurs when blood pressure drops dramatically following an infection. Hollie recounted that the situation "came as a shock in that moment," but Jacob knew exactly how to respond. He contacted emergency services and allowed them into the house so they could attend to his mother.

"He told me he was scared, but he held my hand and stayed with me until the ambulance arrived," Hollie said. "He didnt take his eyes off me the entire time."

Jacob shared his feelings about the incident, admitting, "It was hard to see mum like that, but I used courage." His father, Chris, who had the honor of turning on the town lights in 1998, said he was extremely proud. "He makes me proud every day, but what he did that day was incredible," he added.

Hollie expressed her gratitude, saying, "Jacob is a star, and I couldnt be happier for him. He may never fully realize how thankful I am that he called the ambulance, but I am immensely proud of him for being such a brave boy."
