The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that the arrest occurred in the Portadown area on Wednesday. The operation was conducted by the PSNI's Cyber Crime Investigation Team. Authorities stated that this action is part of an ongoing investigation that commenced following a report submitted on Thursday, April 2, regarding suspicious intrusion activity affecting the Education Authority's IT infrastructure.

The cyber attack reportedly began at the start of the school Easter break, resulting in significant disruption for students who rely on the system for academic purposes. The PSNI emphasized that the attack had widespread effects on student access to online resources.

Effects on Schools and Students

The breach prevented students from accessing their accounts on the C2K system, which contains assignments, revision materials, and other educational resources. This disruption interfered with students’ ability to complete coursework and access materials uploaded by teachers, impacting normal educational activities during a critical revision period.

The C2K system is central to the daily operation of schools across Northern Ireland, and its malfunction temporarily halted students’ access to essential learning tools.

The teenager was taken into custody on suspicion of violations under Sections 1, 2, and 3A of the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
