Late on Thanksgiving night, President Donald Trump released an extended message criticizing immigrants, former President Joe Biden, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and others. The posts, exceeding five hundred words, also included promises to halt migration permanently from what he described as Third World nations, eliminate all federal benefits for non citizens, and remove a broad range of migrants for various stated reasons.
In his message, posted at 11:26 p.m., he added that he wished a happy Thanksgiving to everyone except those he accused of undermining the country, warning that their presence would be short lived.
Trump has a history of issuing sharply worded holiday statements. The previous Thanksgiving, he directed a holiday greeting at what he called radical left groups, and his December 2023 message included similar hostile remarks. In earlier years, he delivered Fathers Day and other holiday notes with harsh political undertones.
This years Thanksgiving statement opened with a message to Americans and supporters, accusing them of tolerating the nation being divided, weakened, and mocked, and blaming what he labeled misguided approaches to immigration.
Trump then targeted Somali immigrants in Minnesota, insulted Governor Walz, and without offering proof claimed that Representative Omar, born in Somalia, had likely entered the United States unlawfully. He also disparaged Somalia, depicting it as unstable and unsafe.
He stated that he would seek to expel anyone he considered not contributing to the United States or incapable of loyalty, and said he intended to revoke citizenship from migrants he accused of undermining public order. He further pledged to remove any foreign national he deemed a financial burden, a security threat, or incompatible with what he called Western values.
Trump added that these actions were aimed at sharply reducing populations he described as illegal or disruptive, including individuals he claimed were admitted through an improper approval process. He argued that what he called reverse migration was the only solution.
His comments followed an attack in Washington, D.C., where two members of the National Guard were shot on Wednesday. One service member later died, while the other remained in critical condition as of Thursday night. Authorities identified the suspect as an Afghan immigrant who entered the country legally under a resettlement program initiated during the Biden administration and received asylum earlier this year under the Trump administration.
