County experiences disruption due to heavy rain.

Several roads in north-west England have been closed due to severe flooding following intense rainfall. Cumbria is currently under a yellow weather warning for rain until midnight, with seven flood alerts issued across the region.

Cumberland Council has reported that localized flooding has rendered certain roads in the northern and western parts of the county impassable. The affected routes include:

  • St Bees to Egremont road at Outrigg
  • A5086 junction with Dalzell Street near Egremont
  • Kingmoor Road in Carlisle, by the railway bridge
  • Houghton Road at Houghton
  • Stockbridge Road between Newbiggin and Stubb Place

A council representative urged drivers to exercise caution and adapt their driving to the conditions, emphasizing: "Avoid driving through floodwater; if unsure, turn around."

The rivers currently experiencing high water levels include:

  • Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck, and Derwentwater in Keswick
  • Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt, and Esk near Egremont
  • Rivers Lowther and Eamont near Penrith
  • Upper River Eden in Appleby-in-Westmorland
  • Rivers Brathay, Rothay, and Winster in the Windermere area
  • Rivers Duddon, Crake, and Mill Beck near Broughton-in-Furness

Residents are advised to follow updates from BBC Cumbria on X, Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram, as continued heavy rain may lead to further disruption and flooding.
