Strong winds expected to hit the SouthCoast this weekend. What you need to know.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for Bristol County as powerful winds are expected to impact the region starting Friday evening. The Greater New Bedford and Fall River areas should be prepared for potentially hazardous wind conditions with the advisory in effect from 4 a.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday.

Weather forecasts predict sustained winds from the south at speeds ranging from 20 to 30 mph. Wind gusts may reach 45 to 55 mph, with some isolated areas experiencing gusts as high as 60 mph. These intense winds could pose dangers to motorists, particularly those driving taller vehicles. Authorities are advising everyone to exercise extra caution when traveling on the roads during these conditions.

These strong winds have the potential to cause power outages, damage to unsecured objects, and fallen tree limbs. Coastal areas, such as the Gooseberry Island causeway in Westport, may see amplified wave action, which could make driving more challenging in those locations.
