Residents of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire were treated to an extraordinary sight on Wednesday night as the northern lights illuminated the skies. Enthusiasts and locals shared photographs capturing the vibrant display above homes and notable landmarks across the region.

The phenomenon, known as the aurora borealis, occurs when charged particles from the sun collide with the Earth's upper atmosphere, creating vast areas of colorful light. Typically, the northern lights are most commonly observed in Scotland, northern England, north Wales, and Northern Ireland. However, strong solar activity can make the aurora visible across the entire UK.

To enjoy the northern lights at their best, it is recommended to seek out dark locations with minimal light pollution and an unobstructed view of the northern horizon. Photographs often reveal the vivid colors more strikingly than the naked eye can.
