At least 11 people dead in South Africa mass shooting

At least 11 individuals lost their lives in a deadly shooting at a hostel in Saulsville, located west of Pretoria. The attack took place early Saturday morning, leaving 14 more people injured.

Among the victims were a three-year-old child, a 12-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl. According to police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, several unidentified attackers entered the building and began firing indiscriminately at patrons gathered inside.

Authorities have not yet determined the motive behind the attack, and no suspects have been detained. Mathe confirmed that a total of 25 people were struck by gunfire during the assault.

Officials described the location as an unlicensed drinking establishment and noted ongoing security concerns linked to such venues, which have frequently been the sites of violent mass attacks.

South Africa continues to face alarming levels of violent crime, with some of the highest murder statistics globally. Police records report that dozens of people are killed each day nationwide.
