Boy detained for alleged 'machete' attack at shopping centre

A 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody after a 17-year-old suffered an injury at a shopping centre in Dudley, reportedly from a weapon resembling a machete. Authorities responded to Merry Hill in Brierley Hill at around 15:30 GMT on Friday following a confrontation between two groups.

The teenager was arrested the following day, Saturday at approximately 17:00 GMT, on suspicion of wounding with intent. The victim received a minor cut to his back that required medical treatment, according to the West Midlands Police. The force is still appealing for anyone who captured the incident on phone or witnessed it to come forward.

Additional police officers have been deployed around Merry Hill throughout the weekend to provide reassurance to shoppers. Detective Chief Inspector Lucy Kirwan commented on the incident, saying: "We understand the alarm this attack has caused, especially on such a busy shopping day. It is completely unacceptable. We are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness statements to identify all parties involved."

She added that officers will continue patrolling the area and encouraged anyone with information or concerns to contact the police.
