Peter MacKenzie Buckby, aged 44, from East Ayton, has been sentenced to four years and three months in prison for historical child sexual offences.
Buckby, who worked as a music teacher in Scarborough, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl under 16. Despite his denial of the allegations, a jury at York Crown Court convicted him of inciting a child to participate in sexual activity and engaging in sexual acts with a child.
Detective Constable Suzanne Hall praised the victim for her courage, saying she showed "exceptional bravery in coming forward and giving evidence."
The offences were reported to authorities in 2022, although they occurred several years earlier.
