Fatal explosion at nightclub in India claims lives of tourists

At least 23 people died in a fire that erupted at a popular nightclub in Goa, India, on Saturday night. The incident occurred after a gas cylinder exploded near the kitchen of Birch by Romeo Lane, a combined restaurant and dance venue in Arpora, North Goa, according to local authorities.

The victims identities have not been fully released, but Goas Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, confirmed that at least three tourists were among those killed. The remainder of the victims included kitchen staff, including three women.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the tragedy as deeply saddening, expressing condolences to the families affected and wishing a speedy recovery for the injured. He noted that the state government is offering all necessary support to those impacted by the fire.

Dr. Sawant, speaking at the scene, said, Three to four tourists lost their lives, while the rest were employees of the venue. Today is a day of immense sorrow for Goa. He also announced an official investigation, stating that those responsible will face strict legal action for any negligence.

Arpora, a town with roughly 3,250 residents, draws large numbers of domestic and international visitors thanks to its beaches, tropical climate, and vibrant nightlife. Birch by Romeo Lane, known for its scenic riverside location and advertised on social media for its exquisite taste and breathtaking views, was hosting a Bollywood banger night when the blaze began around midnight.

The venue, described online as offering a luxurious and immersive experience surrounded by water, is one of over 60 establishments managed by the Romeo Lane hospitality group.
