Final supermoon of the year illuminates the East

On Thursday, observers in the East witnessed the year's last supermoon brightening the night sky. Known as the Cold Moon, it followed October's Harvest Moon and November's Beaver Moon, completing a trio of consecutive supermoons.

Despite initial concerns that cloud cover might hide the event, clear skies appeared across many areas of the East of England, allowing residents to enjoy the striking view of the large, glowing full moon.

BBC Weather Watchers captured and shared stunning images of the Cold Moon. In Corby, Northamptonshire, it dominated the sky, while in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, the moon remained visible just above the treetops before sunrise. In Cambridge, Wendy Windblows photographed the atmospheric scene.

In Southend-on-Sea, Essex, the Cold Moon appeared yellow against a backdrop of pink and violet hues at sunrise. East Cambridgeshires Westley Waterless offered clear skies for detailed close-up shots. The silvery moon could also be seen peeking through trees in Somerton, Norfolk, and in Ipswich, Suffolk, it seemed to tower above chimneys in a remarkable perspective.

Even in locations with more cloud cover, such as Shotley, Suffolk, viewers were still treated to spectacular glimpses of the final supermoon of the year.
