Friends embarking on a 1,200-mile journey for a charitable mission

Two long-time friends are preparing for a 1,200-mile drive to Ukraine, aiming to bring crucial humanitarian support. Stephen Ryder, 69, from Westbury in Wiltshire, and Winkie Fry from Bruton in Somerset intend to take a used ambulance packed with essential supplies from Dover to Lviv this January.

The pair are coordinating their mission with Mighty Convoy, a UK volunteer organisation that has already completed eighteen aid trips to Ukraine. To make the journey possible, they must raise 7,000 to cover all related costs.

Ryder explained that he felt compelled to act after growing tired of hearing people talk about the crisis in Ukraine without taking steps to help. He said the ongoing injustice motivated him to join the effort.

The Mighty Convoy route will take the travellers from Dover to Calais and onward through France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Poland before reaching Lviv. Ryder described the long trip as significant and estimated that the entire drive would take about 36 hours.
