Historian says King Charles and Prince William disagree about the future of the monarchy

Reports suggest growing friction within the British royal family, unrelated to Meghan and Prince Harry. Tensions are reportedly emerging between King Charles III and Prince William regarding the monarchy's future. According to royal biographer Andrew Lownie, Charles is concerned that the institution is falling behind the evolving world.

The Prince of Wales and the Monarch have always had differences, Lownie explains. They come from different generations and hold distinct perspectives.

While King Charles continues to value the traditional pageantry and ceremonial aspects of the monarchy, Prince William reportedly believes the institution risks becoming irrelevant and subject to public ridicule.

Lownie also notes William's frustration over the handling of Prince Andrew's controversies. This issue should have been addressed long ago. They had prior knowledge and were briefed, yet the response was slow, he says.

Prince Andrew, formerly Duke of York, has long been a source of difficulty for the family, particularly due to his connections with Jeffrey Epstein. Queen Elizabeth II removed his official duties in 2019 after a widely criticized BBC interview where Andrew attempted to address his association with Epstein following the financiers 2009 conviction.

Lownie remarks on the queens response at the time: Despite receiving alarming reports about Andrews conduct from diplomats, politicians, and security officials, little action was taken.

These developments underscore a generational and philosophical divide within the monarchy, highlighting Prince William's push for modernization and King Charles's adherence to tradition.
