Kishida shared a photo of the group standing by a Christmas tree on X, referring to Perry as Trudeau's "partner." In his message, he wrote, in Japanese, that Trudeau visited Japan with his partner and joined him and his wife for lunch. Kishida reflected on his previous meetings with Trudeau during his time as prime minister and highlighted their collaboration on the Japan-Canada Action Plan. He added that he is pleased to continue their friendship in this way.

Trudeau echoed the sentiment when he reposted Kishida's message, writing that he and Perry were delighted to meet with the former prime minister and his wife. He expressed gratitude for Kishida's ongoing commitment to international cooperation and a better future for all.

Perry, 41, and Trudeau, 53, were first seen together publicly in July. Perry had recently ended her engagement with Orlando Bloom in June, while Trudeau had separated from his wife, Sophie Grgoire, in 2023 after 18 years of marriage.
