Man Testifies About Affair with Alleged Murder Victim as Husband Stands Trial

During the trial of a Massachusetts father of three accused of his wifes murder, a man who was romantically involved with the missing woman testified on Thursday. Brian Walshe faces charges of killing and dismembering his wife, 39-year-old Ana Walshe, around New Years Day 2023. While he admitted last month to misleading authorities and illegally moving a body, he denies killing her and has pleaded not guilty to murder. Ana Walshes body remains missing.

In opening statements earlier this week, the defense argued that Brian Walshe discovered his wife deceased on New Years Day, panicked, and lied to investigators but did not commit the murder.

On the fourth day of the trial in Dedham, Massachusetts, the court heard from Ana Walshes alleged lover and played a voicemail Brian Walshe left for him on the day she was reported missing.

William Fastow, a real estate agent from Washington, D.C., said he met Ana Walshe while she was searching for a home in the area and assisted her in purchasing a townhouse in 2022. At that time, Brian Walshe and their children were in Massachusetts while he awaited sentencing in a federal fraud case involving counterfeit Andy Warhol paintings.

Fastow explained that he and Ana began an affair after she moved to D.C. for work while separated from her husband. We quickly became close, confided in each other, and eventually started a romantic relationship, he said, adding that they shared personal struggles and conversations about their lives.

Fastow described Ana as distressed about being apart from her children, who were living in Massachusetts with their father due to his home confinement as part of his federal sentence. She was upset that she couldnt be the mother she wanted to be for her children, he said.

He testified that the federal fraud case created significant tension in Ana and Brian Walshes marriage, and she also had conflicts with her husband over credit card charges for his sports memorabilia business. Fastow said their relationship was serious, and they had plans for international travel, but Ana wanted Brian Walshe to learn about the affair from her directly, not from someone else.

Fastow recounted spending Christmas Eve 2022 with Ana, after which she returned to Massachusetts. She and Brian Walshe reportedly had an argument over her absence on the holiday. They were scheduled to discuss their future over dinner on January 4, 2023, but Ana never made it, and Fastow did not hear from her after a New Years Eve text.

Ana Walshes employer reported her missing on January 4. Fastow received two calls from Brian Walshe that day, which he initially let go to voicemail due to concerns about the husband confronting him. The second voicemail was played in court, in which Walshe expressed concern over Anas absence and asked if Fastow had heard from her. Fastow then offered to check the D.C. townhouse, finding it empty.

On cross-examination, Fastow said Ana never told him that her husband suspected the affair, nor was he aware of any plan for her to inform Brian Walshe over the holidays.

Prosecutors contend that Brian Walshe killed and dismembered his wife, disposing of her remains in dumpsters. Internet searches on his devices on January 1 included phrases like best way to dispose of a body and how long for someone to be missing to inherit. On Christmas Day, a search for Fastow was conducted on Brian Walshes phone. The defense maintains that Walshe was unaware of the affair and that marital stress stemmed from the federal case, emphasizing his love for his wife.
