An urgent search is underway for a 12-year-old boy from east London, whose disappearance has been described by the Metropolitan Police as highly unusual for him.
The boy, named Yafee, was last seen by a family member just after 17:00 GMT on Thursday on Khartoum Road in Newham. Despite extensive efforts by both his family and police officers, he has not yet been located.
Detective Inspector Sam Lockstone of the Metropolitan Police said, "Each hour that passes without news of Yafee increases our concern."
Yafee is described as having an Asian appearance, brown hair, a medium build, and approximately 5ft 4in (1.6m) tall. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a school uniform consisting of a black blazer and trousers with a black and yellow tie. He was officially reported missing at 20:40 GMT.
The police have noted that he may have been alone on the streets overnight without a phone or any means to call for help. Detective Inspector Lockstone urged the public to stay vigilant: "Please watch for any sign of Yafee. Even if you are unsure, contact us immediately. Our main goal is to ensure his safety and reunite him with his worried family."
The Metropolitan Police request that anyone who spots Yafee calls 999 immediately, quoting reference number 7098/04DEC. Those with any other information regarding his location are asked to call 101, using the same reference.
