No joke: police 'retrieve' Faberge egg swallowed by thief

Authorities in New Zealand successfully recovered a green Faberge egg adorned with diamonds after monitoring the suspect for six days. The 32-year-old allegedly swallowed the egg last week from a store in Auckland, the nations largest city, but was apprehended before leaving the premises.

"Police can confirm the pendant has been retrieved," officials announced on Friday. "It is now secured in police custody."

An officer was assigned to watch the suspect, waiting for natural processes to return the item, which is valued at approximately US$20,000.

The Faberge egg is a special edition inspired by the James Bond movie Octopussy, which features a storyline about stealing a rare Faberge egg. According to online descriptions, "The eggs exterior mirrors the design from Octopussy, featuring an 18k gold lattice adorned with blue sapphires and white diamonds arranged in a floral pattern." Inside, a tiny golden octopus is hidden.

Faberge, based in Russia, became world-renowned in the late 19th century for creating lavish Easter eggs embellished with gold and gemstones.
