A tragic collision between two vehicles on Highway 70 near the Kfar Hasidim Junction in the Haifa region resulted in the death of a 23-year-old and left five others injured on Thursday night, according to Magen David Adom (MDA).
Upon reaching the scene, MDA responders found a 20-year-old man with no vital signs and severe multi-system trauma. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead at the location.
Five other individuals were hospitalized with injuries ranging from moderate to serious. Two men in their twenties suffered serious head injuries and were unconscious upon evacuation to Rambam Health Care Campus. Another 20-year-old, also in serious condition, required sedation and ventilation due to leg injuries. Two more people, aged 17 and 25, sustained head injuries and were admitted to Bnai Zion Hospital in moderate condition.
The accident caused the northbound lanes of Highway 70 at Kfar Hasidim Junction to close, prompting authorities to advise drivers to use alternative routes.
When I arrived, there were multiple damaged vehicles and five injured individuals, some unconscious, said Senior MDA medic Amir Wahabi. One young man was found beyond the guardrail, among bushes, with no pulse and not breathing. Despite medical checks, we could not save him.
MDA paramedics Yuval Lontel and Aryeh Saloshet confirmed that the injured were transported via intensive care units and ambulances to local hospitals for further treatment.
Hatzalah medics Aryeh Saloshet and Avi Tuito described the collision: Two private vehicles collided and were pushed to the roadside. We administered emergency care to two unconscious young men with head injuries and a 20-year-old with leg injuries. They were evacuated in serious condition to Rambam Health Care Campus. Additionally, a 17-year-old and a 25-year-old with head injuries were treated and taken to Bnai Zion Hospital in moderate condition.
Analysis: Highway 70 Collision in Haifa Region
The tragic accident near Kfar Hasidim Junction highlights the severe consequences of high-speed collisions on major highways. One young man, aged 20, was found deceased at the scene despite immediate medical intervention. The nature of his injuries indicates a high-impact collision, emphasizing the risks faced by drivers on this route.
Five other individuals sustained injuries ranging from moderate to serious, with two suffering critical head trauma requiring intensive care and ventilation. The distribution of injuries across multiple victims demonstrates the violent force of the crash and the challenges faced by emergency responders in triaging and stabilizing patients at the scene.
Authorities had to close the northbound lanes of Highway 70, underlining the broader impact on traffic and the need for careful route management during such incidents. Emergency services acted swiftly, and all injured were transported to local hospitals for ongoing treatment.
This collision underscores the importance of road safety measures, rapid emergency response, and public awareness of traffic risks. It also raises questions about infrastructure and preventive strategies to reduce the likelihood of similar future incidents on this highway.
