Rejected asylum seeker denies allegations of rape

An individual who had been denied asylum has pleaded not guilty to charges of raping a woman in Dorset. Mohammed Fathi Eltbie, an Egyptian national, denies the accusation that he assaulted a woman in her 30s in a forested area in Bournemouth on November 5th. The 24-year-old appeared in Bournemouth Crown Court for a plea hearing, where he was represented by barrister Nick Robinson and assisted by an Arabic interpreter.
Eltbie was remanded in custody until his trial, which is scheduled to begin on May 26, 2026. A preliminary hearing will take place on March 23. Earlier, it was disclosed that Eltbie's asylum status was unresolved after his application was rejected in January. He had entered the UK in July 2023.
