South Africa expels Kenyan workers assisting with US Afrikaner 'refugee' applications

Diplomatic relations between South Africa and Kenya have taken a significant hit as the South African government has expelled several Kenyan nationals allegedly involved in assisting Afrikaners from the United States seeking refugee status. These individuals were reportedly facilitating applications for US-based Afrikaners who claimed to be refugees, a matter that has sparked considerable controversy.

While the details of the expulsions remain somewhat unclear, South African authorities have confirmed that they acted after learning about the efforts of these Kenyans to process these contentious refugee claims. This diplomatic move is believed to be linked to a broader rift that has been growing between South Africa and several foreign governments, especially after recent political developments.

The South African government has faced increasing pressure, particularly after tensions with the United States escalated. Relations deteriorated after the US administration imposed harsh measures against South Africa, including imposing significant trade tariffs and expelling the South African ambassador in March of the previous year. The dispute also resulted in the US government skipping the G20 summit hosted by South Africa in November, further deepening the divide between the two nations.

Amid these strained ties, the United States has taken a more aggressive stance on international diplomacy, particularly regarding countries it sees as not aligning with its policies. In December, the US assumed the presidency of the G20 for the year and announced that South Africa would not be invited to any events it organizes during its term.

These developments have left many questioning the future of South Africa's international relations, as it faces growing isolation from key global powers.
