Spanish state railway operator Adif has set aside 13.3 million ($15.4 million) for a four-year contract focused on the maintenance of signalling systems along the La RoblaPola de Lena high-speed line. This railway corridor connects Asturias via the Pajares Bypass.
The upcoming contract will commence once the current maintenance agreement concludes and will include both routine preventive servicing and corrective interventions for the signalling infrastructure.
The maintenance is designed to ensure the smooth operation and management of railway traffic and communication across the 50-kilometre stretch. Adifs technical teams will employ specialised equipment and procedures to meet the sophisticated requirements of the modern signalling systems, ensuring consistent reliability and operational readiness along the Pajares Bypass.
Preventive inspections are planned at regular intervals, while corrective actions will address any faults as they occur. Additional efforts will also target reinforcement and system improvements.
The La RoblaPola de Lena line, operational since November 2023, facilitates high-speed passenger and freight services between Asturias and other regions. The Pajares Bypass features 12 tunnels covering 80% of the route, including the 25-kilometre Pajares tunnel. Adif continues to oversee maintenance contracts for related infrastructure along this corridor.
In a related move, Adif Alta Velocidad has launched a tender for supplying and installing rail seat plates for sleepers along sections of the Northeast high-speed line, including areas served by the Brihuega (Guadalajara) and Calatayud (Zaragoza) maintenance depots. The budget for this project is 7.67 million, and the work will be performed during night-time maintenance windows to avoid service interruptions. These metal plates secure rails to sleepers, maintaining track alignment and integrity, supporting Sustainable Development Goal 9 on reliable infrastructure.
Additionally, Adif Alta Velocidad recently awarded a 6.32 million contract for the maintenance and reinforcement of the Benamira and Ro Blanco viaducts in the Soria province segment of the GuadalajaraCalatayud line, ensuring their long-term structural stability.
