Guernsey surpasses Jersey in sea travel statistics

Guernsey has now become the leading Channel Island destination for ferry travelers from the UK, surpassing Jersey, according to recent statistics. Data from IRN Ferry, an independent research firm specializing in ferry travel, indicates that Guernsey received 55% of all ferry passengers traveling from the UK to the Channel Islands between April and October.

During this period, 112,255 passengers journeyed from Portsmouth and Poole to Guernsey, compared to 92,023 travelers heading to Jersey from the same ports. This rise follows Brittany Ferries announcement in September, which reported that passenger numbers to Guernsey had increased by nearly one-third since the start of their contract with the States in April.

Christophe Mathieu, CEO of Brittany Ferries, commented: "The summer season exceeded expectations, and we have observed steady growth throughout the seven months, which is impressive considering the population sizes of the islands. For Guernsey to attract more than half of all UK visitors traveling by sea to the Channel Islands is a testament to the efforts of everyone involved."

Guernsey recently signed a 15-year agreement with Brittany Ferries, and additional sailings were introduced to accommodate a car rally.
