The European Union has levied a 120 million ($140 million) fine on Elon Musk's social media platform X, citing concerns that its blue checkmark system misleads users and increases the risk of scams. The bloc described the design of the verification marks as "deceptive."
The decision was announced on Friday, marking another confrontation between Musk and EU regulators. X has yet to issue a response regarding the penalty.
US Vice President JD Vance publicly backed Musk, cautioning the EU against targeting American companies and criticizing the fine as unnecessary. Musk shared Vance's post on X earlier in the day.
This situation continues to develop as both parties navigate the implications of the EU's regulatory actions.
