The rules governing the behaviour of States Assembly members are set to undergo a formal review. A representative of the States and Constitution Committee stated that this assessment aims "to maintain a transparent, effective system that retains public trust."
As part of the process, the committee will appoint an interim standards commissioner until a permanent appointment is finalized. This commissioner will be responsible for investigating complaints alleging violations of the members' code of conduct.
Once the investigations are complete, the commissioner will present their findings to both the States Assembly and the Constitution Committee. It was emphasized that the interim commissioner cannot be a States of Guernsey employee or hold any public office within the bailiwick.
Applications for the temporary commissioner role close on 12 February.
