Every student in Philadelphias public school system deserves access to nutritious meals and enriching educational experiences. This includes students like DeShaun ONeill.
When Abbott Elementary premiered on ABC in late 2021, educators nationwide were impressed by Quinta Brunsons ability to turn the genuine challenges faced by teachers in underfunded schools into a compelling sitcom. Now, as one of the worlds most-watched TV shows, Abbott Elementary allows Brunson to directly support Philadelphias students in ways even her fictional character Janine Teagues could only imagine.
On Giving Tuesday, Brunson announced the creation of The Quinta Brunson Field Trip Fund. The initiative aims to provide free field trips for students from underserved communities, offering them valuable learning experiences outside the classroom. The fund focuses on granting access to Philadelphias museums and cultural landmarks, helping students explore new horizons and broaden their perspectives.
Reflecting on her own childhood, Brunson shared, Field trips expanded my world, inspired my creativity, and helped me envision possibilities beyond my everyday surroundings. Experiencing new places shows that the world is larger and more exciting than you realize, shaping what you see as achievable. She added, Im proud to support Philadelphia students with experiences that affirm their dreams and highlight their potential.
The program is set to remove financial barriers for over 117,000 students in the citys public schools, making cultural and educational outings accessible to more children than ever.
In addition to the field trip fund, Brunson recently contributed $25,000 to the Groceries for Good program, supporting students in West Philadelphia who face food insecurity.
Brunsons efforts demonstrate a commitment to tackling the real challenges Philadelphias students face, from limited educational opportunities to widespread hunger, proving that meaningful action can complement the awareness her show brings to these issues.
