The holiday season in Abbott Elementary brings a heartfelt family reunion for Jeanine Teagues, portrayed by Quinta Brunson, as her mother makes a surprise return. Entertainment Weekly has released an exclusive sneak peek of the season 5 winter finale, featuring the return of Taraji P. Henson as Vanetta Teagues.

Henson initially joined the series in season 2, a role she personally requested after connecting with Brunson. Sharing her excitement on The View, Henson recounted, "I was a fan. I actually asked to be part of the show. Quinta and I met during Jimmy Fallon's That's My Jam, and I told her how proud I was of her. I said, 'Call me anytime you need me.' And she did!"

This marked the beginning of Janine's layered relationship with her mother, a storyline that has continued to develop through the Emmy-winning comedy. Henson made another appearance in season 3 before taking a brief hiatus. Her return coincides with the winter finale, raising the question of whether Janines partner, Gregory (Tyler James Williams), will finally meet her mother.

Brunson teased, "You'll be seeing more of Taraji this season, which is really exciting," hinting at more family dynamics to unfold.

Regarding the holiday episode, Brunson revealed, "Our Christmas episode celebrates more than one occasion. Its going to be a pivotal moment for the series. A lot will change after this episode."

Fans can catch the upcoming Abbott Elementary winter finale on ABC, airing Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT.
