George Clooney remembers how he used to regularly treat elderly women's foot corns before becoming famous

George Clooney recently appeared on Live With Kelly and Mark for an extensive interview about his life and career. The actor shared stories from one of his very first jobs, long before he became famous.

Before rising to stardom on ER, Clooney worked as a shoe salesman, a role that required him to address various foot ailments. He revealed that he often helped elderly customers with hammertoes and corns, describing it as a surprisingly hands-on experience.

The 64-year-old actor explained that his work involved dealing with numerous older customers who would openly display their foot problems, saying things like, "That's a hammertoe!" Clooney even demonstrated by stretching his own foot.

He elaborated on the procedure, noting the specific tools and steps involved. "People would come in with corns or bunions. We had a little plastic corn with a device, and a stretching shoe with holes. First, you sprayed the corn with blue powder, then used the tool to stretch it," he recounted to cohosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

Ripa jokingly asked if he was an early version of a cornhole specialist, which drew laughter from the audience. Clooney responded with a grin, "Yes, I am. Thats probably not the way Id phrase it, but its true."

Later in the conversation, Clooney reflected on whether playing a doctor on ER made him feel more knowledgeable medically. He admitted that it often made him feel less so, explaining that doctors would look at him as if he were clueless when he tried to self-diagnose. Nonetheless, he noted that his friend and fellow actor Richard Kind frequently seeks his advice, and he is usually correct in his assessments.

Live With Kelly and Mark airs weekdays in syndication. Clooneys latest film, Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach and also starring Adam Sandler, is currently streaming on Netflix.
