Approval pending for new village hall and play equipment

Plans for a new village hall, car park, multi-use games area, and playground equipment in Bilsthorpe are set to move forward. The planning committee of Newark and Sherwood District Council is recommended to approve the proposals on Thursday for the development at Crompton Road Park.

According to the planning documents, the proposed building will replace the existing Cross Street parish hall, which has become "no longer financially viable" for repairs due to its age and condition. The new facilities aim to provide expanded opportunities for sports and recreational activities in the village.

A report prepared for councillors highlighted that groups previously using the Cross Street hall have been forced to find alternative venues, while another community building, the former St John Ambulance site, is being converted into housing. With the village experiencing "significant housing growth," the report concluded there is a "genuine need" for a purpose-built parish hall.

The proposed village hall is also planned to include a caf, though no operator has been decided upon yet. While some existing playground equipment will be removed, the outdoor gym, skate park, half basketball court, and informal play pitch will remain. The report notes that the removed play equipment will be replaced with a "wide range of modern" options.
