Avalon has acquired a stake in Calamity Films, the production company behind the Sky series Brassic and the BAFTA-nominated film Pride. The details of whether Avalon obtained a minority or majority share have not been disclosed. Calamity, founded over a decade ago by David Livingstone, will continue to operate from its London headquarters following the investment.
Calamitys portfolio includes Brassic, the Sky comedy that enjoyed strong viewership and gained additional audiences through Netflix, as well as Pride, which won the Queer Palm at Cannes and earned three BAFTA nominations. The company is also involved in developing Pride the Musical, reuniting director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford, with a planned opening at the National Theatre in 2026.
According to Avalon, Calamity is pursuing a bold and diverse slate of new television and film projects. David Livingstone commented: We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Avalon. We have long respected the Avalon team, their work, and their independent approach, and we look forward to building on this relationship as Calamity enters its next chapter.
Avalon CEO Laura Kennedy added: We enjoy collaborating with standout producers like David, who share our commitment to talent-driven, high-quality content. We are excited about the journey ahead together.
Avalon, known for producing shows such as Taskmaster and Starstruck and representing creative talent, has previously taken a minority stake in other independent companies, including one led by Adolescence director Philip Barantini.
