Calamity Films, producer of 'Pride,' 'Last Christmas,' and 'Brassic,' sells stake to Avalon

Avalon, the UK-based talent management and production company, has taken a stake in Calamity Films, the independent British film and television production house known for projects such as Pride, Last Christmas, Judy, and the hit series Brassic. The financial details and exact size of the stake were not disclosed.

Founded in 2013 by David Livingstone, Calamity Films will now join forces with Avalon, one of the UKs largest independent production companies and a leading global talent management firm. The collaboration aims to support Calamitys ongoing and future film and television projects.

The companys track record includes Pride, which won the Queer Palm at Cannes; Judy, which earned Rene Zellweger major awards including an Academy Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe for Best Actress; and Last Christmas, which starred Emilia Clarke, Emma Thompson, and Henry Golding, grossing over $120 million worldwide. The Sky comedy series Brassic has become the networks most successful comedy, running for seven seasons with 50 episodes.

Calamity Films is also developing Pride the Musical, reuniting director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford, scheduled to premiere at the National Theatre in 2026. The company plans to expand its portfolio with a diverse lineup of new film and television productions.
