Bart Johnson Reveals "High School Musical" Star Declined Podcast Appearance Due to Movie Fatigue (Not Zac Efron)

Bart Johnson, known for his role as Coach Bolton in the beloved High School Musical films, addressed fan inquiries about which cast members would appear on his podcast dedicated to the series. Johnson revealed that only one actor declined the invitation, citing that they were done talking about the movie, and confirmed that this individual was not Zac Efron.

Johnson launched his podcast, Get Your Head in the Game, in August, as a spin-off of the Magical Rewind podcast, which explores Disney Channel original movies. His podcast has featured conversations with actors and creatives from the franchise, which began with the 2006 release of High School Musical, followed by its sequels in 2007 and 2008. The first film will celebrate its 20th anniversary in January.

On December 4, Johnson posted on X: EVERY cast member has been invited to be on the podcast. Almost got everyone!! He added that three cast members are working to fit the podcast into their schedules, while one declined completely after decades of discussing the series.

The podcast has already hosted numerous cast members, including Vanessa Hudgens (Gabriella Montez), Lucas Grabeel (Ryan Evans), Alyson Reed (Ms. Darbus), Kaycee Stroh (Martha Cox), Drew Seeley (singing voice of Troy), Robert Curtis Brown, Jemma McKenzie-Brown, and Britt Stewart. Behind-the-scenes talent such as choreographers Chucky Klapow and Bonnie Story, writer Peter Barsocchini, and dancer Mollee Gray have also appeared. Most recently, Johnson interviewed director Kenny Ortega.

Remaining cast members yet to join include Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Olesya Rulin, Chris Warren Jr., and Ryne Sanborn. Johnson explained that Efron is interested but currently has a very busy schedule.

Johnson shared that his vision for the podcast is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of High School Musical and provide fans with a unique cast interviewing cast experience as a gesture of gratitude. He expressed excitement about potentially gathering the full ensemble, stating, If you're out there listening to me, let's get together and say thanks, if nothing better.
