Raul Malo, the charismatic lead singer of The Mavericks, is demonstrating immense courage as he confronts stage 4 cancer and Leptomeningeal Disease, a rare and currently incurable condition. Both Raul and his wife, Betty Malo, have openly shared updates about his health journey, giving fans a deeply personal view into his life and resilience.
Recently, Betty shared touching moments on Facebook, capturing the love and support surrounding Raul. The photos highlighted heartfelt embraces and joyful smiles, reflecting the profound connections he maintains despite his illness. She recounted memories from Rauls early days, saying, Before The Mavericks, Raul played in a Miami band called The Tomboys. Although their paths diverged, the bond remains strong. This celebration of Rauls life and music coincides with a special two-night tribute event. The Mavericks announced, Dance The Night Away: A 35-year Musical Legacy Celebrating The Mavericks & Honoring Raul Malo, set for December 5-6 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The performances aim to honor Raul and the bands decades-long contribution to American and Latin music.
The lineup features a diverse array of artists, including Jamy Johnson, Marty Stuart, Steve Earle, Chuck Mead, Cimafunk, Emily West, Hector Tellez Jr., Jaime Hana, JD McPherson, James Otto, Jim Lauderdale, Jese Dayton, Jimmie Vaughan, Joshua Ray Walker, Maggie Rose, Mandy Barnett, Nicole Atkins, Waylon Payne, Sweet Lizzy Project, Wade Hayes, Seth Walker, Nikkie Lane, Patty Griffin, and Ray Benson. Although Raul will not perform, he will be present and honored throughout the celebrations.
Tickets for these tribute shows remain valid from previously scheduled dates, and no new tickets are required. Raul expressed his excitement, saying, Im really looking forward to these two nights at the Ryman. The love and support from my fellow musicians, fans, and family will make these shows unforgettable.
The event promises a heartfelt celebration of music, memories, and the enduring legacy of Raul Malo and The Mavericks.
