Heather Tom, who has been a staple in daytime television for over three decades, shared insights about her favorite on-screen romances in an interview with PEOPLE. Her journey in soap operas began in 1990 when she was cast as Victoria Newman on The Young and the Restless. She later joined One Life to Live in 2003 as Kelly Cramer before taking on the role of Katie Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2007, a character she continues to portray today.
When asked about her most cherished romantic storylines, Tom highlighted two in particular: her earliest and her current. Her first memorable romance was Victoria Newmans relationship with Ryan McNeil, portrayed by Scott Reeves. She described it as wildly romantic and likened it to a modern-day Romeo and Juliet, noting the significant age difference between the characters. Tom said the storyline resonated with fans for its authenticity and emotional depth. Ryan eventually left Victoria for another character, and their planned remarriage ended tragically with his death.
Her ongoing romance on The Bold and the Beautiful is Katie Logans marriage to Bill Spencer Jr., played by Don Diamont. Their characters have been entwined on-screen for over 16 years, sharing multiple story arcs and a son, Will Spencer. Tom emphasized the natural chemistry she shares with Diamont, which dates back to their time on The Young and the Restless. She explained that their real-life friendship and trust have made their on-screen relationship feel genuine and dynamic, allowing the characters to evolve naturally without repeating old patterns.
Beyond her romantic storylines, Tom also praised the authentic relationships between Katie and her sisters, Brooke and Donna. She described the Logan sisters bond as honest and relatable, reflecting the genuine sisterly connections viewers can connect with.
Toms reflections highlight her enduring impact on daytime television, illustrating the unique blend of chemistry, trust, and storytelling that has defined her career in soap operas for 35 years.
