Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried have turned a quiet New Jersey town into a buzzing filming location for their upcoming thriller, The Housemaid. The movie is being primarily shot at a grand mansion located in a leafy Madison neighborhood.
Sweeney, 27, and Seyfried, 39, play the leading roles in the film adaptation of Freida McFadden's bestselling novel, which is scheduled for release on December 19. The stars made a striking appearance at the movie's premiere on December 2, with Seyfried in a soft pink gown and Sweeney sparkling in silver, posing alongside their co-stars.
Excitement around the project escalated with the release of on-set photos, offering fans their first look at the actresses in character and the stunning 1909 mansion where much of the story unfolds. The estate features six bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, high ceilings, a three-car garage, and sits on a 1.86-acre lot. Its exterior, marked by lush landscaping and a castle-like faade, provides the privacy ideal for filming.
Property records show the home sold for $2.1 million in 2015 and is now valued at $3.8 million. The current owner remains undisclosed. Filming activity was first reported in January, with production crews seen setting up equipment outside the residence during the winter months.
In the movie, Sweeney portrays Millie Calloway, a live-in maid seeking a fresh start, while Seyfried plays Nina Winchester, the wealthy employer whose life becomes entwined with Millie's. The story promises a "seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power."
Director Paul Feig praised the duo, saying their chemistry is "off the charts," making audiences quickly invest in their characters worlds. Sweeney described Millie as a "complex, strong character with a few surprises up her sleeve," while Seyfried assured fans the film retains the books tension, secrets, and twists.
Feig added that the adaptation, penned by Rebecca Sonnenshine, remains faithful to the novel but includes unexpected surprises that elevate the story. He described The Housemaid as "shocking, thrilling, and entertaininga rollercoaster that will keep viewers engaged from start to finish."
