Jason Derulo Speaks Out About Sexual Harassment Allegations

In a candid and emotional discussion, Jason Derulo has opened up about a deeply challenging chapter in his career. In a recent episode of In Depth with Graham Bensinger, filmed at his Los Angeles home on September 16, the singer reflects on a sexual harassment lawsuit that he says severely damaged his reputation, cost him millions, and permanently altered how he operates in the music industry.

The lawsuit, originally filed by singer Emaza Dilan, was dismissed twice in separate states. However, shortly after the interview, Dilan refiled the case in New York, meaning the legal dispute continues.

Derulos Candid Take on Working With Women

When asked about the lessons from the lawsuit, Derulo responded bluntly: Never work with women. While host Graham Bensinger challenged the statement, Derulo emphasized that his fear was genuine. Theres truth in every joke. But its a sad truth, he said. I will never be alone in a room with a woman that I work with ever, ever again.

He described the allegations as implausible, including a claim that he performed a sexual ritual involving a goat, yet the case caused significant personal and professional harm. That case was dismissed twice and I lost so many brand deals, relationships off of a story that was not even slightly believable, he said.

Derulo highlighted the reputational impact as more damaging than the financial loss. I have one name that I work so hard to stay clean somebody can just say anything? Thats the world we live in, he explained. He also criticized the media for not covering the dismissals of the lawsuit as widely as the initial claims.

The Difficulty Men Face in Publicly Defending Themselves

The singer discussed the lack of public discourse around hardships faced by men, particularly when accused of misconduct. It seems distasteful to combat stories that have been told about me. It seems like theres no winning, he said, noting the ongoing personal toll of such situations.

Family, Distance, and Personal Life

Derulo opened up about how fame has created distance between him and his family. Thats one thing we were really rich in. Family," he said. "The fact that we didnt have very much allowed us to be closer together. He admitted living in a large Los Angeles home and having family in Miami has made staying connected difficult. He even expressed concern about his homes layout affecting time with his young son.

Views on Relationships and Monogamy

Derulo discussed his perspective on relationships, stating that monogamy may not suit him currently, but as long as expectations are clear, theres no issue. He addressed past controversies, noting that many reports contained exaggerations, and public rebuttals often feel futile. Regarding previous public comments and jokes about his personal life, he clarified, Thats just obvious that thats my life. But not in a relationship unless that person knows, thats not really happening.

Unexpected Early Career Decisions

The singer shared that his first studio cost $8,000, largely funded by his then-girlfriend with money earned as a dancer. To this day, when I get cash, I call it shoebox money,'" he said, recalling the nickname inspired by storing money in a shoebox under the bed.
