‘Live’: Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos Share Theory on Why They Always Get Sick During Holidays

The festive season, a joyful time for many, brings an unexpected challenge for Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos: they often get sick during this period. On the December 5 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark, Ripa explained, We always fall ill around the holidays, and I think I know why. Its like our bodies wait until the holidays, knowing were free to rest, then thats when illness strikes.

She emphasized that stress isnt the culprit. Its not stress, Ripa said. My body just decides, Now you can finally catch that virus everyone else had.

Ripa shared a memory from early in the COVID pandemic. During winter break, a second outbreak occurred right after they taped their final show. Soon after returning home, each of their children tested positive for COVID one by one, and Consuelos also contracted the virus. I isolated everyone individually, Ripa recalled. Total lockdown for each of them.

Despite the outbreak, Ripa avoided COVID herself over the break, though she spent the holidays alone while her family recovered. I didnt get it for a long time, she said, noting that when she finally tested positive, it was during the workweek rather than her time off.

This week on Live, Ripa admitted she is behind on holiday shopping, joking about her usual early preparation. Consuelos suggested skipping gift-giving this year to reduce holiday stress, which Ripa enthusiastically supported. Thats two fewer gifts for me to buy, she laughed, calling it real freedom.
