Robert Cosby Jr., son of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby, has entered guilty pleas for assault, trespassing, and violating a protective order, among other charges. This occurred on November 25, a day after his wife, Alexiana Arian Smokoff, filed for divorce on November 24.
The 23-year-old appeared in Salt Lake County District Court, where he admitted to offenses stemming from multiple incidents between September and November, involving both his wife and father-in-law, Shad Stoke, according to court records.
Out of 14 charges, Robert pleaded guilty to eight, including:
- One count of felony property damage exceeding $5,000
- Two counts of violating a pretrial protective order obtained by Alexiana
- One count of assault on a peace officer
- One count of violating a jail release court order
- Criminal trespass on a dwelling with intent to cause annoyance, injury, or fear
- One count of Class B misdemeanor assault
Six other misdemeanor charges were dismissed with prejudice. The divorce petition filed by Alexiana prohibits both parties from harassing or disturbing each other, including via electronic means, and restricts actions such as domestic violence, misuse of personal identity for credit or services, and interference with utilities.
Roberts attorney, Clayton Simms, stated that Robert struggled to accept the end of his marriage due to his religious beliefs and upbringing, adding that he has accepted responsibility for his actions and pleaded guilty to several misdemeanors.
Robert, who has appeared alongside his mother on RHOSLC, was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on November 9 and will remain incarcerated without bail until his sentencing on February 3, 2026. At that time, a judge will determine the remaining length of his sentence.
Previous indictments alleged that Robert attempted to enter his father-in-laws home through a dog door on two occasions in September and attacked him on the lawn. In November, prosecutors accused him of vandalizing the property and biting a police officer during the arrest, which required the use of a taser to subdue him.
Robert had also been arrested in 2022 for a DUI, resulting in a plea deal where other charges were dropped.
Mary Cosby commented in November that her sons September arrest was necessary for his growth and reflection, acknowledging the emotional difficulty but emphasizing the importance of the experience for his path forward.
Robert Jr. expressed that he is taking life "day by day" and is committed to improving his situation, stating he is "not where I want to be, but certainly not where I used to be."

Analysis: Robert Cosby Jr.'s Legal Troubles and Path to Accountability
The legal saga of Robert Cosby Jr. has taken a troubling turn, with the 23-year-old pleading guilty to multiple charges related to domestic violence, trespassing, and assault. The charges stem from incidents involving both his wife, Alexiana Arian Smokoff, and his father-in-law, Shad Stoke, which took place between September and November 2025. His actions include felony property damage, violating protective orders, and assault on law enforcement officers. These criminal acts, including a disturbing attempt to enter a residence via a dog door, paint a troubling picture of escalating behavior that has now led to significant legal consequences.
Despite the severity of the charges, Robert Cosby Jr. has expressed a desire to improve, indicating his commitment to personal growth. His attorney cited his struggle to cope with the end of his marriage, suggesting his religious beliefs and upbringing played a role in his actions. However, the court has made it clear that actions have consequences, as Robert has now faced criminal charges, including misdemeanors for assault and trespassing. This plea, while marking a step toward accountability, leaves open questions about his future actions and the potential for rehabilitation.
The divorce filing from Alexiana Arian Smokoff, combined with the protective order, highlights the severity of Robert's behavior and underscores the need for legal and personal boundaries. It’s clear that the protective order, designed to prevent harassment and further domestic violence, is an essential measure to safeguard Alexiana. However, the incident in which Robert reportedly bit a police officer and was tasered during an arrest suggests that his issues extend beyond personal relationships, touching on his ability to respect authority and legal boundaries.
Robert Cosby Jr.'s case serves as a sobering reminder of the complexities surrounding domestic violence, substance abuse, and personal responsibility. It also emphasizes the importance of legal intervention and support for those affected by such behavior. As his sentencing approaches, the question remains: will Robert use this opportunity for genuine growth, or will the cycle of troubling behavior continue to shape his future?
