Netflix Announces True Crime Docuseries "Romantic Con Man"

Netflix is set to revisit the lethal case of notorious romance scammer John Meehan in an upcoming true crime production. The new docuseries, titled Dirty John, offers an in depth look at the manipulative predator whose web of deceit, intimidation and psychological torment captured nationwide attention in the 2010s. His fraudulent relationship with a woman and her family ultimately resulted in his violent end.

Described as a comprehensive study of the real figure behind the legend, the series directed by Emma Cooper features exclusive archival recordings, disturbing evidence and emotional accounts from survivors and the investigators who worked to uncover the truth.

The story of Meehan was previously adapted in the 2018 Bravo drama Dirty John, inspired by Christopher Goffards podcast and starring Eric Bana in the lead role.

The documentary is produced by Bunim Murray Productions, a Banijay Americas division, alongside Empress Films and Emma Cooper. Executive producers include Julie Pizzi, Jesse Daniels and Melissa G Moore.
