Prison guard confesses to engaging in oral sex with inmate

A prison officer is scheduled for sentencing next month after admitting to engaging in an "inappropriate" sexual relationship with a prisoner. Rebecca Pinckard, 46, from Red Houses, Six Mile Bottom, Suffolk, acknowledged having a relationship with an inmate at Highpoint Prison, Newmarket, between April and July 2024, during which she performed oral sex on the prisoner.

Pinckard was arrested and charged with neglecting her duties and misconduct in public office. She initially appeared at Suffolk Magistrates' Court last month, and later pleaded guilty at Cambridge Crown Court, where her sentencing has been set for January 16.

Highpoint Prison, one of England's largest Category C facilities, houses approximately 1,300 inmates. Court documents indicate that Pinckard, who was responsible for supervising the prisoner involved, not only engaged in sexual activity with them but also sent them a personal card.

Pinckard was originally due to appear before magistrates on 5 November for a plea and trial preparation hearing scheduled for 3 December, but she instead attended court on 19 November, admitted the offence, and was informed of her sentencing date.

The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU), comprising officers from seven East of England police forces, was notified of the incident on 8 July 2024. The unit described the relationship at the time as "inappropriate" and has been contacted for comment.
