Robert Downey Jr mocks Gwyneth Paltrow for her confusion about Marvel movies forever

Robert Downey Jr. playfully ribbed his former Iron Man co-star Gwyneth Paltrow for her ongoing mix-ups regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Paltrow, 53, who portrayed Pepper Potts across seven MCU films, received the 20th annual Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at The Hollywood Reporters Women in Entertainment breakfast gala on Wednesday.

Downey Jr., 60, presented the award to the Goop founder, first teasing her before delivering a heartfelt tribute. He remarked that Paltrow is exceptionally smart, yet always puzzled by the core concepts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its characters, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Throughout her career, Paltrow has occasionally gone viral for forgetting which Marvel films she appeared in or failing to recognize some of her MCU co-stars, such as Tom Holland and Sebastian Stan. Downey Jr. recalled one instance when she asked, Whos that? about Holland, prompting him to reply, Thats Spider-Man. His character is Peter. Hes Tom Holland. Youve acted with him in four movies.

Reflecting on Paltrows career, Downey Jr. praised her remarkable work ethic, noting how she developed Goop between filming Iron Man scenes. He also highlighted her recent acclaimed role in Josh Safdies sports comedy-drama Marty Supreme, alongside Timothe Chalamet, describing it as a notable return after a brief acting hiatus.

Addressing Paltrows often debated public image, he argued that polarizing is frequently misapplied to powerful women who have continually reinvented themselves. He added, We are here because in times when leadership, integrity, and resilience are so valued yet rare, here stands a woman willing to face challenges head-on, even in court, maintaining grace and dignity.

Downey Jr. concluded his remarks with a playful nod: Its time to celebrate ... Gwyneth fuggin Paltrow.

Upon accepting the award, which honors innovators and philanthropists in entertainment and media, Paltrow delivered an emotional speech. She said, To be among all of you women, and the men who support us, at this beautiful event to all 100 women recognized today being here is truly a gift.
