Kim Go-eun portrays Mo Eun in The Price of Confession, a meticulously crafted crime drama that examines assumptions about human behavior and the biases of those in authority. Directed by Lee Jung-hyo of Crash Landing on You, and written by Kwon Jong-kwan, known for Proof of Innocence, the series showcases some of South Koreas top acting talent in complex roles.
Jeon Do-yeon stars as Ahn Yun-su, a free-spirited art teacher whose life turns tragic when her husband, painter Lee Ki-dae, is fatally stabbed in his studio. Prosecutor Baek Dong-hun (Park Hae-soo) becomes convinced Yun-su is responsible, despite her insistence that she saw a hooded woman leaving the scene. Public opinion and the courts condemn her, leaving her young daughter parentless.
Meanwhile, Mo Eun, a woman with a cold exterior, admits to killing a married couple she worked for as a dentists assistant. She accepts the consequences of her actions. In solitary confinement, she offers Yun-su a deal: she will confess to Ki-daes murder if Yun-su kills college student Ko Se-hun, the son of Mo Euns victims.
Mo Euns real identity is revealed as Kang So-hae, a doctor who worked in Thailand during the COVID outbreak. She lost her father and sister to suicide after her sister, So-mang, was assaulted by Se-hun and the justice system failed them. Adopting the identity of her deceased friend Mo Eun, she seeks revenge against Se-hun and his parents.
Yun-su agrees to Mo Euns plan and is released on bail. Although she attempts to kill Se-hun, she cannot go through with it. Instead, she fakes his death to satisfy Mo Eun. Se-hun is later found dead in his freezer, with evidence implicating Yun-su.
Yun-su investigates her husbands murder and discovers that Jin Yeong-in, Mo Euns lawyer, and his wife Su-yeong were involved. Su-yeong attacked Ki-dae in a fit of rage over a disputed art donation, while Yeong-in helped cover the crime. Their motives are separate from Mo Euns revenge plot, which becomes intertwined only after Se-huns involvement.
As the series reaches its climax, Mo Eun sacrifices herself to help Yun-su expose the truth. In the final confrontation, she forces Yeong-in to act, ultimately killing him and ensuring Yun-su can pursue justice. Yun-su also dies in the struggle, in her own arms, as allies arrive at the scene.
The ending offers partial resolution: Mo Eun achieves vengeance for her family, and Yun-su, despite her own legal struggles, secures the chance to raise her daughter. She travels to Thailand, honoring So-haes happiest memories. Su-yeong appears likely to avoid full punishment for Ki-daes murder, illustrating the lingering consequences of rushed judgments and unchecked arrogance.
