After her roles in The Housemaid and completing the third season of Euphoria this year, Sydney Sweeney expressed interest in a project set on Greek islands, featuring a tangled paternity storyline and lots of ABBA music. During her appearance on The Tonight Show on Monday, December 1, Sweeney shared her enthusiasm for Mamma Mia, a topic that came up frequently while filming The Housemaid alongside Amanda Seyfried, who appeared in both of the musicals films.
I am the biggest Mamma Mia fan, Sweeney admitted. She mentioned that she often listens to the ABBA soundtrack from the movie and once sent a video of her friends singing along on the beach to Seyfried. I said, Youll always be my icon. I adore you, she recalled.
While on the set of The Housemaid, Sweeney took the chance to perform a song from the musical with Seyfried. She shared a TikTok of them singing Angeleyes together, describing the experience as a dream come true. The Housemaid will be released in theaters on December 19.
The original Mamma Mia film premiered in 2008, featuring a star-studded cast including Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, and was adapted from the stage musical based entirely on ABBA songs. A decade later, the sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again reunited much of the original cast. If the pattern continues, a third installment could appear in 2028. Seyfried has expressed interest in returning and suggested that Sweeney and Sabrina Carpenter could join the franchise. I love portraying a mom, so it would be great to show Sophie with her kids. Maybe a cousin, like Sabrina Carpenter, and then Sydney Sweeney could join. There are many girls Id love to include, Seyfried told Entertainment Tonight.
Looking ahead, Sweeney is excited for the third season of Euphoria, expected on HBO Max in 2026. Speaking with Jimmy Fallon, she hinted that the series could continue beyond season three and described finishing the latest season in November as bittersweet.
Describing the upcoming Euphoria season in one word, Sweeney chose self-discovery, echoing the poetic style of co-star Jacob Elordi, who previously called it white fritillaries.
