'Platonic' Gets Renewed for Season 3 on Apple TV

Just a little over two months following the Season 2 finale, Apple TV has officially announced that Platonic will return for a third season. Fans of the comedy series have eagerly awaited news, and the confirmation promises more adventures between best friends Will (Seth Rogen) and Sylvia (Rose Byrne), who reunited after years apart in the first season.

The Season 2 finale ended with Sylvia deciding to partner with Will in opening his S**tty Little Bar, navigating around a non-compete clause from his previous employer. Given their complicated history, this new venture may bring unexpected challenges. Rogen remarked, I think it will have a negative impact on their friendship, leaving viewers curious to see if this prediction comes true.

Will Season 3 Happen?

Yes, Apple TV confirmed on December 5 that Platonic is officially renewed for a third season. This follows the shows previous renewal pattern, with Season 2 being greenlit in December 2023, five months after the Season 1 finale.

Cocreators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco shared, We couldnt be more excited to return to the world of Platonic with our amazing partners, Rose and Seth, and our collaborators at Sony and Apple.

Premiere Date

No official release date has been announced yet. Considering Seasons 1 and 2 were released over two years apart, and Season 2 premiered on August 25 more than a year after Season 1, new episodes of Platonic may not arrive until 2027 if the pattern continues.

Returning Cast

Byrne and Rogen are set to reprise their roles as Sylvia and Will. Other familiar faces may return, including Sylvias husband Charlie (Luke MacFarlane) and best friend Katie (Carla Gallo), though their participation has not been officially confirmed.

Byrne told TV Insider, Id love to return. The characters are dynamic, funny, and dysfunctional, and I feel theres more story to explore. Rogen added to Decider, I would love to continue Platonic. There are strong storylines ahead, and its something Id enjoy doing as long as audiences keep watching.

Show Origins and Future

Platonic was initially envisioned as an anthology series, with Byrne and Rogen appearing for only one season and future installments exploring new characters. However, during Season 1 production, the creators decided to retain the duo due to their strong chemistry. Stoller told The Hollywood Reporter, Apple rightly felt they were central to the shows identity. Who would watch Season 2 without them?

Season 3 Trailer

Production for Season 3 has not yet begun, so no trailer is available at this time.
