‘The Comeback’ Season 3: Andrew Scott Joins Lisa Kudrow as HBO Series Prepares for March 2026 Premiere

Valerie Cherish is stepping back into the spotlight once more. More than a decade after Season 2 ended in December 2014, the cult-favorite mockumentary comedy The Comeback, created by Michael Patrick King and starring Lisa Kudrow, is officially returning to HBO for its third season.

HBO confirmed that Season 3 will premiere in March 2026, with both a linear broadcast and streaming availability on HBO Max. Alongside this announcement, the network released the first official image from the new season and revealed that acclaimed actor Andrew Scott has joined the cast.

The series follows Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, a former sitcom star trying to revive her faltering career. Season 1 showcased her hiring a camera crew to document her role as Aunt Sassy in a middling comedy about roommates, while Season 2 saw her cast in a dark, edgy HBO comedy titled Seeing Red, created by her old rival Paulie G. (Lance Barber) and co-starring Seth Rogen, echoing aspects of her own life.

Joining Scott, the cast includes returning favorites Dan Bucatinsky, Laura Silverman, and Damian Young, as well as new additions Tim Bagley, Matt Cook, Jack OBrien, Ella Stiller, John Early, Barry Shabaka Henley, Abbi Jacobson, Tony Macht, Brittany OGrady, Zane Phillips, and Julian Stern.

Executive producers for the series are Michael Patrick King and Lisa Kudrow, alongside John Melfi and Dan Bucatinsky. Kudrow has expressed her desire for a third season for years, and although the original series received mixed reviews, fan nostalgia fueled the revival for both Seasons 2 and 3.

Details about Andrew Scotts role and the upcoming seasons plot remain under wraps. Scott, currently in contention for an Oscar for his portrayal of Richard Rodgers in Richard Linklaters Blue Moon and an Emmy nominee for Black Mirror and Ripley, will make his HBO debut with The Comeback.

The announcement came during HBO CEO Casey Bloys 2026 Content Showcase in London.
