MP praised as a hero for rescuing constituent's life

A Member of Parliament has been widely commended for saving the life of a local resident who experienced a heart attack. Greg Stafford, representing Farnham and Borden, administered CPR to 76-year-old Chris Storey after he collapsed in a car park.

Chris Storey, from Wrecclesham, Surrey, described the MP as a hero, saying, "I always thought he was a good man, and now he is a hero to us."

Stafford, a Conservative MP, humbly downplayed his actions, stating he was "not a superhero" but merely "in the right place at the right time." Storey, who is the local Conservative party chair, collapsed shortly after meeting with the MP.

Recalling the incident, Storey told BBC Radio Surrey, "If he hadn't been there, I wouldn't be here now. I remember feeling very light-headed, and then the next thing I knew, I was in the back of the ambulance."

Stafford explained the moment he realized Storey had collapsed: "Chris just fell to the floor suddenly. He hit his head, and there was bleeding." He immediately called emergency services and followed their instructions for CPR, noting that he had previously attended a CPR course but had no formal medical training.

Storey regained consciousness and was taken to the hospital, where he received a stent and later underwent a triple heart bypass.

Reflecting on the experience, Stafford said, "It was a shocking moment, but I was glad to help. The professionals who arrived were the real heroes. This has reminded me to keep my CPR skills sharpyou never know when it might be needed."

Storey reported he is recovering well and preparing to begin cardiac rehabilitation. He added, "I'm not in pain, and the scars are gradually healing." His wife of 47 years, Judith Storey, praised Stafford's calmness, stating, "Greg was amazing. We are incredibly grateful for the additional time he gave us."
