Warner Bros. Pictures has secured the rights to Under Story, the forthcoming novel from Chloe Benjamin, author of the bestseller The Immortalists. The adaptation will be produced by David Heyman and Jeff Clifford through Heyday Films, the production company known for the Harry Potter series and the acclaimed project Jay Kelly.

Scheduled for release in bookstores in September 2026 via Putnam, Under Story explores themes of second chances and the possibility of making the impossible real. The narrative follows a former biologist who retreats to a research station in Antarctica to escape her past. A mysterious visual phenomenon draws a group of physicists to the site, including her ex-husband, offering her a chance to revisit their shared history and potentially reshape their love story.

Warner Bros. executives Jesse Ehrman and Kevin McCormick will supervise the adaptation, with studio VP of Literary Affairs Erin Hoffman playing a key role in bringing the project to the studio.

Chloe Benjamin, a Vassar College graduate with an MFA in fiction from the University of Wisconsin, debuted in 2014 with The Anatomy of Dreams, which won the Edna Ferber Fiction Book Award and was longlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. Her second novel, The Immortalists, examined destiny versus choice through the story of four siblings who learn their future from a psychic. The book was a commercial success and received recognition as one of the best books of 2018 by NPR, The Washington Post, and Entertainment Weekly. It is also being adapted for television by Netflix with 21 Laps Entertainment producing.

Translation rights for Under Story have already been sold in Dutch (Meulenhoff), German (Btb/Penguin Random House), and Italian (Rizzoli), while Spanish-language rights are currently being negotiated with Urano.
