WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk Cast in Netflix Romantic Comedy

After lending his voice to "Zootopia 2," WWE superstar CM Punk is taking another step into the world of film with a role in an upcoming Netflix project. According to Deadline, Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, has been cast in a new movie inspired by the 2022 novel "The Bodyguard."

This adaptation is not related to the 1992 Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston classic. Instead, it will feature former CW stars Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki in the lead roles. The romantic comedy follows an action star and their dedicated bodyguard, with the story unfolding during the festive holiday season.

Punk will portray Doghouse, a security team member known for his loyalty and humor. The role adds to Punk's growing acting resume, which already includes the "Zootopia" sequel. He is also set to appear in the horror-action film "Night Patrol" as a vampire police officer.

Throughout this year, Punk has been balancing his WWE career with more consistent acting work. He has credited fellow former WWE star Dave Bautista, now a successful actor, for guidance in navigating Hollywood.

Currently, Punk is the reigning World Heavyweight Champion in WWE, having claimed the vacant title after defeating Jey Uso on November 1. He recently participated in the WarGames match at WWE Survivor Series, though his team fell short. Punk's next title defense is scheduled against Bron Breakker on the January 5 episode of "WWE Raw."
