On Monday, December 1, Amy Schumer posted an Instagram Reel addressing questions about her weight loss. The 44-year-old actress revealed she lost 50 pounds, emphasizing it was "to survive" rather than "to look hot." Schumer added that the weight loss has made her "pain free."
The Reel, filmed by her 6-year-old son Gene, offered a glimpse into their home. While showing various rooms, Schumer included text explaining details about her weight loss journey. She clarified that she has not used Botox or fillers and confirmed that she lost 50 pounds, not 30. "Not to look hot which does feel fun and temporary," she wrote. "I did it to survive."
Schumer mentioned dealing with a health condition that caused extreme facial swelling, likely referencing her Cushing syndrome diagnosis. Cushing syndrome occurs when the body produces excess cortisol, the primary stress hormone, and can lead to weight gain, high blood pressure, and stretch marks, according to the Mayo Clinic. She reassured her followers that the condition has cleared.
The comedian apologized for any feelings her weight loss may have triggered and noted that she has had plastic surgery over the years and uses Mounjaro. She added that she is now pain-free and able to play tag with her son.
Schumer also discussed her perimenopause and endometriosis, conditions she revealed earlier in 2024. Perimenopause is the transitional phase before menopause when estrogen levels decrease, often causing hot flashes or irregular periods, and can last several years, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
She concluded her Instagram caption by addressing speculation about her marriage to husband Chris Fischer. "Whatever ends up happening with Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism," she wrote, referring to Fischer's autism diagnosis. She expressed hope for their future together, calling him "the best."
Schumer and Fischer, 45, have reportedly remained committed to their marriage despite public speculation. A source told PEOPLE in November that they are privately navigating typical long-term marriage challenges while staying committed to each other.
This recent Reel is not Schumer's first response to questions about her marriage. In an Instagram Story on November 6, she shared a photo of New York City, praised Hulu's series All's Fair, and confirmed, "And Chris and I are still married." She has also previously addressed her weight loss journey, sharing in October that she is "feeling strong" and focused on how she feels rather than just appearance.
