Cat owner shares photos of disturbing midnight discovery in cat's cage: 'She screamed her lungs out'

Owning a pet comes with many responsibilities, including protecting them from wild animals. Sometimes, pet owners learn this the hard way. A Reddit user in the r/Malaysia subreddit shared a harrowing experience when their kitten was attacked by a python while confined in its cage.

The user wrote, "At 5am, she screamed loudly and woke us up. A quarter of the python's body was already inside her cage. By the time I reached her, she had gone silent, and I feared the worst." They grabbed a metal pipe to try to scare the snake away, but it remained nearby, hiding behind some bicycles. Authorities from local animal control were eventually called to safely capture the python.

Fortunately, the kitten managed to climb to the top of the cage, avoiding the snake's reach. "She was abandoned on the roadside during heavy rain a few weeks ago. We took her in and decided to adopt her. She survived that ordeal and now survived this one," the poster added.

Encounters between pets and wild animals can be distressing. Domestic cats and dogs can be vulnerable to predators such as snakes, coyotes, bears, and large birds, especially when wildlife habitats are disrupted by human activity. Protecting the environment, maintaining properties, planting native species, and adopting cleaner energy alternatives help preserve ecosystems and reduce dangerous interactions between humans, pets, and wildlife.

Reddit commenters expressed relief that the kitten survived and concern over the snake's presence. One user remarked, "Oh my, I'm so glad she's okay. If you hadn't been there on time, who knows what would have happened next. You reacted wonderfully, and she is smart enough to meow loudly." Another added, "What a brave kitty thanks for taking care of it."
