Hospices' Appeal Raises £40k in Just One Day

A hospice organization is seeking to collect 40,000 within a single day to accommodate more patients amid a surge in requests for beds. Myton Hospices announced plans for a Christmas-focused fundraising effort on Tuesday to ensure residents of Coventry and Warwickshire can receive the care they require.

A charity representative highlighted that many individuals on the waiting list for hospice care might pass away before a bed becomes available. The appeal comes after the hospice recorded an 11% increase in demand for its inpatient units over the past year.

With only 17% of its funding coming from the NHS, the charity relies on raising 1 million monthly to maintain free palliative care services. A spokesperson explained, "We have not had to close any services yet, and we are committed to keeping them open, but our monthly costs have reached over 1 million, while NHS contributions cover just 17% of our operational needs."

"Every contribution, regardless of size, helps us continue delivering skilled, compassionate palliative and end-of-life care," the spokesperson added.

Myton Hospices operates three facilities in Coventry, Rugby, and Warwick, providing support for adults over 18 with terminal illnesses. In addition to inpatient care, the organization offers respite services, home visits, and helplines.
